6/27/07 Iraq Minister of Construction and Housing Bayan Diza Yee has announced work has begun on a residential compound in Babil province. “This project is one of the ministry’s six residential compounds included in the current year’s plan,” said Diza Yee in a ministry statement. The compound’s total cost reaches 42 billion Iraqi dinars (approx. US$33.5m), added the statement. It is set to include 504 residential units in addition to three schools, a mosque, health centre, commercial market and a park. The project should take 30 months to completion. Apart from the residential compounds the ministry is building throughout Iraq, it also continues to manage a housing fund that provides loans to state employees in order to purchase residential units.
