| 2008: Japan supports Iraq to build power stations |

June 26, 2008 Iraqi Prime Minister Dr. Nouri al-Maliki on Wednesday in Baghdad received Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and the delegation accompanying him. During the meeting, Iraqi Premier said that “improving security situation and Iraq’s need for building electric power stations and developing its economy through using its oil will open its doors to the Japanese companies to invest in Iraq”. Al-Maliki stressed that Iraq has strong relations with Japan and will strive to develop the relations in all areas, saying “we hope that the Japanese companies will play great roles in the process of building and reconstruction”. For his part, the Japanese minister expressed his satisfaction with the improvement in the security situation in Iraq, pointing out that recent developments will expand the work of Japanese companies and strengthen relations between the two countries. He also reiterated his country's willingness to increase cooperation with Iraq and meet its needs for building power stations, development of oil and gas fields and agricultural and industrial sectors. |
