Iraq seeks to raise Thi-Qar’s oil production to 750K barrels per day
February 18, 2010
The Iraqi minister of oil has revealed plans by his ministry to raise oil production in Thi-Qar province to 750,000 barrels per day (bpd).
“Production has been launched from the Nassiriya oilfield. Production will be gradually raised after more wells are dug,” Minister Hussein al-Shahrestani said in his speech during an inauguration ceremony of a project in Katea area (30 km northeast of Nassiriya).
“Negotiations are on the way with foreign companies to develop al-Nassiriya oil field and other fields in the province in an attempt to raise the province’s production to more than 750,000 bpd,” he indicated.
Nassiriya, the capital city of Thi-Qar province, lies 380 km south of Baghdad.
