How to Avoid Counterfeit Dinar - Watch the Video Here
The new Iraqi Dinar which was introduced in October 2003, is one of the most technologically advanced banknotes in the world today. The new Iraqi Dinar is printed by the De La Rue Corporation which is involved in the production of over 150 of the world’s currencies. The Iraqi Dinar has advanced anti-counterfeit measures which are easily identified and extremely difficult to reproduce.
The security features of the new Iraqi Dinar include:
- Watermark
- Metallic Ink
- Security Thread
- Color Changing Symbol
- Imbedded Ultra-Violet Marking
- Raised Ink Writing
- Special Currency Paper
- Serial Numbers
- Watermark
The watermark is an image that is imbedded in the actual currency paper. In order to see the image, you must put a light behind the banknote while you are looking at it. The image on the Iraqi 25000 Dinar banknote is a horse. The image may be seen on the banknote without lights behind the note, but should not be visibly printed on either side of the banknote.
- Metallic Ink
The metallic ink used on the Iraqi Dinar is shiny silver and can be seen in the shape of wings and in the leaves of the bush on the Arabic writing side of the 25000 Dinar banknotes. When you run your fingers over this metallic Ink, you should be able to feel a very slight difference in thickness---it will feel slightly denser than the surrounding paper.
- Security Thread
The imbedded security thread is easily visible with light behind the banknote. It alternates from being visible on the surface of the banknote to being imbedded in the paper of the banknote. It is shiny silver with faint writing on the strip itself.
- Color Changing Symbol
The color changing symbol on the 25000 dinar banknote looks like a circular stamp with an 8 pointed star in the middle about 3/4 inch in diameter. It changes color from a purplish color to a dark greenish color when the banknote is tilted back and forth. The color changing symbol appears to have a slight sparkle to it.
- Imbedded Ultra-Violet Marking
The ultra-violet bright yellow-green marking is only visible when the banknote is held under an ultra-violet light. The marking on the 25000 dinar banknote is about 1 inch across and ¾ inches high.
- Raised Ink Writing
On the Arabic writing side of the 25000 Dinar banknote, the ink is raised in the center of the banknote. You can feel the raised ink by running your fingers across the paper and the ink.
- Special Currency Paper
The Iraqi Dinar is printed using special currency paper similar to most European currency papers. Although not as durable as the paper on which U.S. currency is printed, it is durable enough to contain the latest security features. Counterfeit detection pens used for US currency will not work with Iraqi banknotes.
- Serial Numbers
Each Iraqi banknote has a separate serial number—no two banknotes should have the same number. Do not be confused by the Arabic symbols for the numbers “2“ and “3,” they are very similar, but different only because of a slight “peak” on the upper horizontal part of the Arabic symbol for the number “3.”
Detecting Counterfeit Iraqi Dinar Notes
In general, not all banknotes are printed perfectly and they are not all exactly the same. Just like there are slight variations in U.S. printed banknotes, there are occasional variations in Iraqi banknotes. These variations may include slight variations in placement of the different security features, faded ink, and slight smearing of ink. If at anytime you have questions about your currency, contact the dealer who sold you the currency. If you are purchasing from a reputable Iraqi Dinar dealer, the banknotes should have been checked at least once through a De La Rue machine which verifies authenticity.
In order to assure that 100% of the currency we hold is both authentic and of legal origin, Dinar Banker uses a De La Rue 8625 Currency Counter with counterfeit detection on all of our notes. De La Rue, which manufactures the currency counter and verification machine, is the same company that prints the Iraqi Dinar notes, which ensures maximum accuracy in detecting counterfeit banknotes and classifying and tracking previously circulated Iraqi Dinar.
